Fire safes are designed primarily to protect contents in the event of fire and extreme heat, while still providing significant theft and burglary protection.
What is Fire Safe?
If you are considering the storage of key documents and irreplaceable valuables and you have no fire protection system, then it is important to consider the fire rating, before purchasing your home safe.
A number of international standards have been used to determine a fire rating for home safes, and they are based around the ability of safe to maintain it’s internal temperature while externally being subjected to extreme temperatures. New Zealand and Australia recognises the UL, Underwriters Laboratory standards, as do most insurance companies.

- Be clear of specification your insurance company may require
- Always look for a for rating of 30 minutes or more
- Find out what rating standard it was measured by and ensure it has certification
